COURTLAND—Approximately $180 was spent in all during a 28-hour search for an inmate who escaped from the Southampton County Jail on April 21.
“It will be requested that Ditz be ordered to pay for this cost,” Sheriff Cuffs said.
With two of the state’s best men on the case, donating their time in an effort to catch the inmate, the only cost they incurred to the state were 3 packs of nabs, 4 cans of potted meat, 3 cans of vienna sausage, 2 2-liters of Sundrop, and a roll of duct tape. “You never know when duct tape might come into play,” said Trooper Moe Parr. “The guy at the Wal-Mart thought we were going fishing or something.”
With the income from the 6 speeders Trooper Johnson caught, the pair actually netted a profit for the special ops assignment, which is unheard of in police work.
The County will also have to spend around $100 to have Ol’ Red Junior fixed. Sheriff Cuffs commented, “Well, seeing as how he got that blue tick hound knocked up somethin’ fierce, and his chasing tail allowed the convict to escape, we’re going to have to get him a lil’ snip-snip.”
Southampton County has begun to look for Ditz’s kitchen replacement. “We won’t be able to replace those biscuits, its a real shame,” said Cuffs, “but right now we’re looking at a guy who’s here on capias charges that makes a mighty mean fiesta omelet, so maybe its not a total loss.”
Since the escape, corrections officers have come from Greensville Correctional Center, Sussex I and Sussex II State Prison, and Deerfield Correctional Center to learn proper takedown techniques and chicken calls from the Dynamic Duo. Said one Sussex Officer, “Man, that Trooper Parr got some mad skills with that cluckin’. Dude had me fiending for some Popeye’s right there, I see why that escaped fool came out in the middle of that field now.”
Ditz was found at 9:15 a.m. that Sunday with a steel toed boot in his rectum in Capron.
