Customer Appreciation Day a success

Customer Appreciation Day held last Saturday was a super success.  Of course, anytime you get the community out in a collective effort to save some dollars on RC Cola and Bounty Double Size Rolls, it’s a good thing.

A big thank you from me personally to everyone that was involved with the donkey rides, face painting, Pet Zoo, pet painting, and face riding.

The dreary day actually made for great working conditions, with the chilly wind keeping skirt lengths respectable, and knocked down the scent from some of the less fresh-smelling customers. As of this writing, the 2012 CAD event had 240 people participate.

The crown jewel of the day was the store scavenger hunt, which had teams of contestants roaming the store in search of odd items.  The store’s biggest team of shoppers, the Top-Heavies, a team of veteran shoppers weighing in at a whopping 6,335 pounds, dominated our little piece of the planet.  Filling their carts to the brim, the team was able to secure the highest score with a figure that included 34 tires, two toilets, a bumper, a couple of bike frames, and a very large bra! That’s just some of the more interesting items this super team found.

Teams participating this year in the contest were:  Friends with Benefits, Team Edward, Redneck Yacht Club, PDCCC Solar Energy Club, Franklin Beautifilization Committee, Thugs for a Cause, and Teens for Breast Awareness.

Next year I wish that everybody who shops in the Wal-Mart will participate.  We’re an integral part of the community, and I hope people view their local Wal-Mart with pride, knowing how grateful we should all feel that we as a town are important enough to be blessed with a Wal-Mart. That just seems like a given to me; that the people who use the Wal-Mart the most would want to enjoy this event the most.

Anyway it was a great event, and for those of you who were trying to check out during the 5 hours it was going on, just be appreciative that we were able to get you out so quickly given the circumstances.  We only had two cashiers and one of them happens to facepaint a mean Dora the Explorer, so I hope you can understand.  The other cashier was out of service because a few of the donkeys got sick halfway through, and she was our replacement.  Imagine all the joy on the children’s faces when their dream of riding a donkey at the Wal-Mart came true when Cathy got down on all fours and saddled up!

Yes it was truly a grand day at the store we call the Wal-Mart!
