FRANKLIN—Several motorists were arrested during a DUI checkpoint on Highway 58 in Franklin on Wednesday night.

Conducted by esteemed Virginia State Trooper Stanley Johnson, the checkpoint resulted in the first simultaneous three car pullover maneuver in over 30 years. When asked about the pullover, Johnson stated, “I’m just doing my job. I’m disappointed though, there was a fourth that I couldn’t quite get. He escaped into Southampton doing God knows what. A full nine miles per hour over the limit, he was a real daredevil. I hope the fair citizens of Virginia can forgive me.” |
Notable arrests of the night included Toney Johns, 64, of Windsor for drunken driving and driving under a suspended license. Upon finding Johns under the influence of alcohol, Johnson used “necessary” force to subdue him by humming the chorus to “Family Tradition” by Hank Williams, Jr. This is a tactic used to get perps to let their guard down. Once Johns began singing, Johnson was able to move in and handcuff the driver.
Tiffany Anderson, 22, of Smithfield was charged with possession of a heroine. With a blowup replica of Wonder Woman in her passenger seat, she was an easy mark for Johnson. Anderson cried when Johnson popped the blowup doll with his size 13 boot.
Police also arrested 19 other motorists.
